The 2025 Colors of the Year: A Celebration of Upcoming Design Trends

The year 2025 ushers in a stunning spectrum of shades from leading paint and design brands. From bold blacks to soothing blues, these colors highlight the diverse ways we can make our spaces inviting, dynamic, and unique. For Smith Interior Design's third year in a row, we are diving into each major paint manufacturers chosen Color of The Year. Here’s a roundup of the top colors of the year!

Caramelized by Dunn-Edwards

This soft, golden-brown hue reflects the comforting appeal of warm neutrals. Caramelized is perfect for creating cozy environments, whether used in living rooms or kitchens. Its organic tone makes it an ideal pairing with soft whites or deep greens.

Cinnamon Slate by Benjamin Moore

A blend of heathered plum and velvety brown, Cinnamon Slate radiates warmth and sophistication. Use it in traditional or modern spaces for a grounding yet elegant effect. This color pairs beautifully with other nature-inspired tones.

Elderton by Graham & Brown

Elderton is a rich burgundy shade that adds a touch of opulence to any space. Perfect for accent walls, it evokes timeless elegance and pairs well with metallics like gold or bronze for a luxurious aesthetic.

Encore 8002-45G by Valspar

This deep ultramarine blue exudes stability and depth. Encore creates a calming yet joyful atmosphere and is versatile enough for any room. Pair it with natural woods or soft grays for a harmonious design.

Hammered Black by Krylon

For those seeking drama and sophistication, Hammered Black delivers. This textured black adds depth and intrigue to furniture, accents, and outdoor spaces, making it a striking choice for modern and industrial aesthetics.

Mapped Blue by Dutch Boy Paints

This crisp and calming blue offers a serene ambiance. Mapped Blue is ideal for bedrooms or bathrooms, evoking a sense of clarity and openness. It complements light neutrals and sandy beige tones.

Purple Basil by Glidden

A deep, moody purple, Purple Basil combines sophistication with vibrancy. It’s a bold choice for accent walls, statement furniture, or even cabinetry, creating an eclectic and artistic feel.

Rumors by Behr

This dynamic ruby red reimagines the classic color with a modern twist. Rumors offers energy and elegance, making it ideal for bold accents or full-room transformations. Pair it with soft blues or whites for a balanced look.

Raku by C2

Another red shade has been thrown into this mix of rich, inviting colors. C2 has chosen Raku. The earthy hue draws inspiration from a centuries-old pottery method used in ancient Japanese tea ceremonies.

Sherwin-Williams’ Color Capsule

Sherwin-Williams’ collection celebrates a palette rather than a single color. The capsule includes shades inspired by nature and innovation, offering cohesive options for blending multiple hues into a unified design vision. Sue Wadden, Director of Color Marketing said, “It’s very special to commemorate our 15th Color of the Year anniversary by expanding to an entire capsule that is a modern, fresh take on color, with a balanced and usable assortment of shades. Together—as a complete palette or in expertly picked pairings—the capsule’s alchemy creates something to be treasured in any style or setting.

The 2025 Colors of the Year invite us to embrace boldness, comfort, and innovation in our interiors. Whether you're drawn to the grounding Elderton, the luxurious Rumors, or the textural depth of Hammered Black, these hues provide endless opportunities for personal expression.
